What Does The UFC Have Planned For August?
With the UFC locking down Las Vegas and “Fight Island”, the promotion is ready to kick it up a notch when it comes to producing fights in the summer.
MMA Fighting was the first to report that the Nevada Athletic Commission has approved for nine UFC events in the month of August. That includes episodes of Dana White’s Contender Series.
Following the last “Fight Island” event on July 25, the UFC returns to Las Vegas on August 1. The main event of that fight card will be Holly Holm v. Irene Aldana in a bantamweight bout. On August 8, Derrick Lewis and Alexey Oleinik will main event a card that features the middleweight return of Chris Weidman.
The middle of the month will see UFC 252, with a trilogy bout finally taking place. Stipe Miocic will face off against Daniel Cormier for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Both fighters are 1-1 against one another for the title. A UFC Fight Night on April 22 has a rumored bout of Angela Hill v. Michelle Waterson, while the final August event on the 29th will feature Anthony Smith v. Aleksandar Rakic.
The schedule for August for Dana White’s Contender Series will have the following dates booked:
- August 4 (launch)
- August 11
- August 18
- August 25
This version of DWCS is expected to run through October. All events are scheduled to take place inside the UFC’s APEX Center.
