What Does Vitor Belfort Want Wanderlei Silva To Do?
Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort is urging Wanderlei Silva to stop with the “fake news.”
Belfort and Silva are no strangers to one another. Back on October 16, 1998, Belfort collided with Silva under the UFC banner. “The Phenom” won the fight in just 44 seconds. Both men became icons in the sport of MMA but there’s still been a mutual desire between the two to run it back.
Recently, Silva turned some heads on social media. He made a post claiming to promote a stacked event set to be held on Mike Tyson’s ranch. Advertised were Belfort, Fedor Emelianenko, Fabricio Werdum, Rashad Evans, and Tito Ortiz. Many questioned the legitimacy of the event and it was quickly taken down by Silva.
In a video posted on his Instagram account, Belfort called for Silva to stop playing games and accept a rematch (via MMAFighting.com).
“My team, my manager have already called (Silva), and Chatri from ONE Championship said that this fight will happen,” Belfort said. “It’s only up to (Silva) now. He has to start negotiating with (ONE). He has to start moving for this fight to happen. There’s no other way. He wants this fight, so let me give you some advice Wanderlei, get in touch with (ONE) and dedicate, brother. I’m waiting for you. Stop posting fake news and little posters and let’s fight. I’ve already accepted, you have to start moving now.”
Belfort hasn’t been inside the cage since May 12, 2018. He was knocked out by Lyoto Machida and announced his retirement. “The Phenom” later reversed course and signed on with ONE Championship.
As for Silva, his last outing was on September 29, 2018. “The Axe Murderer” suffered a TKO defeat in his fourth bout with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson under the Bellator banner.
