What Is Colby Covington Saying About Jorge Masvidal?
Colby Covington is once again poking the bear in Jorge Masvidal.
Covington and Masvidal have quite the history with one another. The two went from being friends to bitter enemies. Covington has been calling for a bout with Masvidal to settle their feud. UFC President Dana White has told reporters that he’s on board with the idea.
Appearing on Submission Radio, Covington claimed that Masvidal is afraid of sharing the Octagon with him (h/t MMAJunkie.com).
“Dana White came up to me after my fight immediately and said, ‘Hey, we want to do you vs. Masvidal.’ I accepted right on that night, in that minute. So, (Masvidal) knows I’m on board. The UFC knows I’m on board. Now it’s just about getting ‘Street Judas’ Masvidal on board. He’s scared. He’s scared of my shadow. If my shadow was around him, he’d be running. So, who knows if he’ll show up to the Octagon. I definitely don’t want to have to beat him up on the streets of Miami, cause I am the king of Miami.”
Covington is coming off a fifth-round TKO victory over former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley. “Chaos” hadn’t stopped an opponent since August 20, 2016. Covington has gone 8-1 in his last nine outings.
Masvidal last competed back on July 12. He took on Kamaru Usman for the UFC Welterweight Championship. Usman’s grappling was too much for “Gamebred.” Masvidal lost the fight via unanimous decision.
White has said that the UFC is working on booking the rematch between Masvidal and Nate Diaz. As of now, however, White is unsure if Diaz has been contacted for the fight yet.
