What Is Jermall Charlo’s Message To Top-Ranked Middleweights?
WBC Middleweight Champion Jermall Charlo has a strong message for the 160-pound division.
Charlo has been reigning as the WBC king at middleweight since April 21, 2018. He would soon be elevated from interim status to the main champion. On September 26, he’ll put his title on the line against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. It’ll be his fourth title defense.
Charlo spoke to Ray Flores ahead of his showdown with Derevyanchenko. During the interview, Charlo made it clear that he’s taking aim at all challengers and others champions in his weight class (h/t Boxing Scene).
“Buckle yo seatbelt. Yeah, buckle yo seatbelt. It’s liftoff. Everyone that was doubting me, everyone who was thinking they wouldn’t get a turn, you’ll get yo chance. You just hold tight. I’m running the show (at middleweight). I’m driving the boat. I got the big boat, so y’all stay locked. The spaceship gonna take off. You better be on it. If not, you gonna get skipped over. We got too much going on to be playing with y’all. Where the rest of the belts at? Where are the rest of the belts at?”
Charlo has amassed a perfect pro boxing record of 30-0 up to this point. Along the way, he has scored 22 knockouts. His opponent, Derevyanchenko, is known for having close fights with Gennadiy Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs.
Charlo vs. Derevyanchenko will be part of a doubleheader on Showtime Boxing pay-per-view. Jermall’s brother, Jermell, will also be on the card in a title unification bout against Jeison Rosario. Jermell is defending his WBC Light-Middleweight Title while chasing the WBA (Super) and IBF gold.
