What Is Leon Edwards Accusing Jorge Masvidal Of Doing?
Leon Edwards isn’t about to drop his feud with Jorge Masvidal.
Edwards and Masvidal aren’t strangers to one another. “Rocky” and “Gamebred” competed in separate bouts on a UFC London card in 2019. After exchanging words backstage, Masvidal and approached Edwards and punched him.
Masvidal vs. Edwards has yet to come to fruition but that hasn’t stopped “Rocky” from trying. Edwards has been pushing for the fight but he doesn’t think the feeling is mutual. Here’s what he told MMAFighting.com.
“I want the fight. The UFC wanted the fight. They offered it to him and he turned it down. He said he’d rather fight Nate Diaz. I don’t understand it. He claims he wants to get back to the title shot and fight for a world championship. I don’t understand what fighting a person like Nate Diaz will get you? I don’t know. I don’t know where his head’s at. I don’t know what the f**k he’s doing but I’m here, I’m ready. I’m willing to go.”
Edwards hasn’t been in action since July 20, 2019. He earned a unanimous decision victory over former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos. The victory extended “Rocky’s” winning streak to eight. He was set to meet Tyron Woodley earlier this year but the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to that plan.
UFC President Dana White has said that Edwards will get his opportunity for a major fight. The UFC boss suggested that Edwards just hang back and wait for the results of some other 170-pound bouts.
