What Is The Status Of Stephen Fulton Jr. Vs. Angelo Leo?

As Showtime will be preparing to debut its first of many events from inside the Mohegan Sun Arena, the main event of the promotion’s return to action will need to be altered.

Via a release, it was announced that Stephen Fulton Jr. is out of his fight against Angelo Leo this Saturday, August 1. Due to a positive COVID-19 test, the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation removed him from the card. Taking his place for the vacant WBO Junior-Featherweight Title will be Tramaine Williams.

“Extensive protocols have been put in place to catch this very possibility and they’ve proven so far to be effective,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “We are supporting Stephen and his team as they self-quarantine off property and we will help with any medical assistance if needed.”

“Fortunately, Williams was ready to move into the spot in the main event, which remains a battle of unbeaten young super bantamweights. In addition, Marcus Bates was in excellent shape and answered the call to face Aleem in a title eliminator. He is an aggressive super bantamweight who will make the most of this opportunity. I expect him to be on everyone’s radar after Saturday night.”

According to the release, Team Fulton was tested six times, with the last one coming back positive for COVID-19. They did not make it to the personal “Bubble” that the event will be protected by.

Leo (19-0) won four fights in 2019. The 26-year-old has nine wins via knockout and is a WBO NABO Super-Bantamweight Champion.

Williams (19-0) made his professional debut in 2012. He fought four times in 2019, three of them via unanimous decision. The 27-year-old won his last bout in July of last year, beating Yenifel Vicente. He was supposed to face Ra’eese Aleem before the change. Aleem will now face off against Marcus Bates.
