What Will Shawn Porter And Sebastian Formella Be Fighting For?
As he attempts to return to championship glory, Shawn Porter will look to take advantage of any situation put in front of him.
The former IBF Welterweight Champion will be making his return to the ring against Sebastian Formella. The fight will take place on August 22 and it will be a PBC on FOX main event. As one of the premier events back, an enticing prize is up for grabs. According to Boxing Scene, the WBC Silver Welterweight Title will be on the line.
Established by the World Boxing Council in 2010, the “silver” title was meant to be a replacement for interim titles. Justin Savi was the first fighter to win the title, and Amir Khan held onto the belt from 2014 to 2016.
A multi-time title contender, Porter (30-3-1) has faced a who’s who of fighters in his last six contests. After losing to Keith Thurman for the WBA Welterweight Title, Porter beat Andre Berto and Adrian Granados in 2017. He would beat Danny Garcia for the WBC Welterweight Title and would retain it against Yordenis Ugas. Porter would lose the belt to Errol Spence Jr. last September in a Fight of the Year contender.
Formella (22-0) made his debut in 2015. He has only fought outside of Germany once, beating Krzysztof Szot in Sweden. The 33-year-old has ten wins via knockout and won his last three bouts via unanimous decision. Formella beat Thulani Mbenge for the IBO World Welterweight Title and defended it this past January, beating Roberto Arriaza.
The fight between the two has been rumored to be taking place inside the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
