What Would Winning WBA Title Mean To Yordenis Ugas?
There is a major prize at stake when Yordenis Ugas shares the boxing ring with Abel Ramos.
Ugas vs. Ramos will headline a PBC on FOX card this Sunday, September 6. This bout will be contested for the vacant WBA (Regular) Welterweight Title. The action will be held inside the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Ugas is coming off a TKO victory over Mike Dallas Jr. This title fight with Ramos is important for Ugas, who fell just short against Shawn Porter back on March 9, 2019. That was a WBC Welterweight Title fight that Ugas lost via split decision.
Speaking to Boxing Scene ahead of fight night, Ugas laid out how significant a win on Sunday would be for him.
“It would mean the world to me,” Ugas said. “I’ve been on this journey the past 10 years. I’ve won at the amateur level, I’ve won at the Olympic level. When I came into the pros, a lot of people doubted me. They didn’t think I would make it to the championship level, so it means the world to me. I’m ready to embark on this journey and continue my career as a champion.”
Ugas comes into the big title matchup with a pro boxing record of 25-4. He has scored 12 knockouts along the way. Ramos has a record of 26-3-2 with 20 of his wins coming by way of knockout. This is the first crack at a major boxing championship for Ramos.
This event will also feature undercard action. Undefeated prospect Jesus Ramos will collide with Estaban Garcia. Plus, Omar Juarez goes one-on-one with Dakota Linger.
