What’s The Latest On Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier Rematch?
It looks like Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier II is one step closer to happening.
McGregor and Poirier competed back on September 27, 2014. McGregor defeated Poirier via first-round TKO. The “Notorious” one went on to become a UFC “champ-champ.” Poirier became an interim UFC Lightweight Champion and has been revered for his exciting fighting style.
With McGregor having some issues with the UFC, he has attempted to fight Poirier outside of the promotion for charity. The UFC is well aware of the back-and-forth social media posts between the two and is looking to set up the rematch.
Here’s what UFC President Dana White told Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports.
If it’s a fight @TheNotoriousMMA wants, it seems to be a fight he’ll get.@DanaWhite tells @RobbieBarstool that an offer has officially been made to Conor McGregor & Dustin Poirier (@DustinPoirier) for a fight inside the UFC. They are currently waiting to hear back. pic.twitter.com/cOXKZ8FAPu

“No, Conor and I have not talked outside the public stuff. I don’t know if you just saw but the Saudis went after Conor. [They] basically said, ‘that’s a lie that that [Manny Pacquiao] fight is happening and you better take that down in the next 15 minutes or we’re gonna sue you.’ He took it down. You don’t see the poster anymore about him and Pacquiao that he had posted. Then he called out Poirier for a fight with Conor in Dublin for charity, so we offered them both a fight. We offered Dustin and Conor a fight, so we’re waiting to hear back from both of them.”
Things have been getting testy between McGregor and White. The two have been on the outs a bit after McGregor released text messages with the UFC boss discussing future plans. White was none too pleased about this but the “Notorious” one says a code was broken when White claimed he was turning down fights.
McGregor had been claiming that a boxing match with Pacquiao is set. White has denied knowing anything about McGregor’s claim. Pacquiao was seen training shortly after McGregor said he’d fight the WBA (Super) Welterweight Champion.
