What’s The Latest On Josh Taylor vs. Jose Ramirez Date?

Fight fans worried that Josh Taylor vs. Jose Ramirez could fall on the same night as Canelo Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders can breathe easier now.

Taylor vs. Ramirez has reportedly been on tap for the spring. This is a big matchup in the world of boxing as it would be a title unification bout. Taylor holds the WBA (Super), IBF, and The Ring Light-Welterweight Championship. Ramirez holds the WBC and WBO gold.

Mike Coppinger of The Athletic recently reported that Taylor vs. Ramirez was being planned for May 8. That’s the same night as the likely super-middleweight title showdown between Canelo and Saunders.

While many fight fans and experts were dreading having to witness two major fights being held at the same time on different platforms, it appears that issue has quickly been solved. In a new update, Coppinger reports that Taylor vs. Ramirez is being moved to a new date.

“Sources: ESPN and Top Rank plan to stage the undisputed 140-pound title tilt between Josh Taylor and Jose Ramirez on a different Saturday in May with Canelo Alvarez-Billy Joe Saunders slated for May 8 on DAZN. Great news for boxing; now both fights will receive proper attention.”

Boxing aficionados will no longer have to worry about missing a second of the action with either big title bout. Of course, Canelo vs. Saunders isn’t a guarantee but it is expected. In order for the bout to happen, Canelo not only has to defeat Avni Yildirim on February 27 but he must also walk away unscathed.
