What’s The Latest On Miguel Berchelt vs. Oscar Valdez?

It seems Miguel Berchelt vs. Oscar Valdez will finally become a reality.

Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that WBC Super-Featherweight Champion Berchelt is set to put his title on the line against Valdez. The bout will air live on the major ESPN network. BoxingScene.com later followed up with a report claiming that the targeted date for Berchelt vs. Valdez is December 12.

Berchelt and Valdez have been angling for a bout for a while and they’ll finally get their wish. Up to this point, Berchelt has amassed a pro boxing record of 37-1, 1 NC. Valdez has been perfect in his pro boxing career with a record of 28-0. He is a former WBO Featherweight Champion.

Berchelt is coming off a bout against Eleazer Valenzuela. He was had scored the sixth-round TKO victory but the fight was ruled a No Contest as it wasn’t sanctioned by the Mexico City Boxing Commission. Berchelt’s last official win was back on November 2, 2019, when he knocked out Jason Sosa in the fourth round.

Valdez is fresh off a 10th-round TKO victory over Jayson Velez. It marked Valdez’s 22nd victory via knockout.

Berchelt vs. Valdez will join a stacked schedule of boxing events under Top Rank. That includes the big title unification bout between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez, which is planned for October 17.
