When Does Caleb Plant Want To Fight Winner Of Canelo-Saunders?
Caleb Plant has a timeframe in mind for a showdown with the winner of Canelo Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders.
Plant is the IBF Super-Middleweight Champion. Canelo holds the WBC and The Ring gold. Saunders is the WBO Champion. Canelo vs. Saunders is scheduled to take place on May 8. Plant is hoping to get the winner for a major title unification fight.
Recently, Plant revealed that his injured hand is healing well and he’s gunning for a clash with the winner of Canelo vs. Saunders in September (h/t Bad Left Hook).
“Hand’s feeling good, healing up. Had to get a small incision made, but nothing major,” he said. “I’m already in the gym and healing up. (I’ll be ready) for September, so hopefully we can get everything worked out and get the fans the first undisputed super middleweight champion of all time.”
Plant admits he’d rather fight Canelo since he knows it would bring in a bigger payday but he won’t exactly be upset if Saunders pulls off the upset.
“If everything works out (it’ll be Canelo), but regardless of who I have to fight, I want to be the first undisputed super middleweight champion.”
Plant is coming off a successful title defense against Caleb Truax. It was Plant’s third successful title defense.
