When Will Jorge Masvidal Return To Action?
Following a rise in popularity, Jorge Masvidal managed to insert himself into the UFC Welterweight Title scene. Although he lost to Kamaru Usman, Masvidal was admired for accepting the bout on short notice. He is now looking to return to the octagon sooner than we think.
Masvidal (35-14) spoke to ESPN after facing American Cornhole League champion Cody Henderson on ESPN2 this past week. Appearing healthy, Masvidal stated when he believes he will return to action. He is also hoping for another title opportunity.
“Hopefully, December/November,” Masvidal stated, via MMA Fighting. “My opponent has a broken nose, he’s going to be out for a couple days due to me. He does have a broken nose.
“I think next week we’re going to find out just how long he’s out for and then we’ll start determining who will be the next fight and where.”
Making his MMA debut in 2003, Masvidal has fought all over. He ended up making his UFC debut in 2013 and is 12-7 with the promotion. After missing all of 2018, Masvidal made a name for himself in 2019 by winning three fights. He knocked out Darren Till in March, recorded the fastest knockout in UFC history against Ben Askren, and beat Nate Diaz inside Madison Square Garden at UFC 244 via TKO. The last fight earned him the BMF Title.
After fighting the UFC over pay, Masvidal would end up replacing Gilbert Burns at UFC 251, who tested positive for COVID-19 to start July 4 weekend. He fought on less than ten day’s notice and would lose the bout via unanimous decision. Masvidal is hoping to fight for the title once again, but UFC President Dana White has made it clear that Burns will be next for a title shot.
With Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington reportedly set to fight later this year, it is unknown who Masvidal would fight next.
