When Will Jose Pedraza Vs. Mikkel LesPierre Be Rebooked For?

Earlier today, Top Rank had to cancel a planned bout between Jose Pedraza and Mikkel LesPierre. Set to fight inside the MGM Grand Conference Center, LesPierre’s trainer recently tested positive for COVID-19. As a result of the Nevada Atheltic Commission’s guidelines, those who have been with the person affected by the virus cannot participate in fight night activity.

Boxing Scene is reporting that if all goes according to plan, the fight will be rescheduled to late July. That would join Mikaela Mayer v. Helen Joseph. Mayer ended up testing positive for COVID-19, and her fight on June 9 was postponed.

“We’re looking to reschedule the fight for July 14th,” Carl Moretti, Top Rank’s VP of Operations told Boxing Scene. “If both camps agree to that date, that’s when we’ll do the fight.”

LesPierre’s manager Josie Taveras made contact with the former in “The Bubble” designed to keep fighters and their team secluded from everyone else. Guidelines were put in place by the Nevada Athletic Commission following the decision to bring back combat sports to the state.

Tavares ended up commenting on the situation, stating:

“I apologize for the inconvenience this caused. I am not exhibiting any symptoms. I am looking forward to hopefully rescheduling this fight as soon as possible. I am devastated for Mikkel.”

Before fighting, LesPieree worked at his other job as an employee at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Even though he was on the front lines during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, he has managed to stay healthy and not show any symptoms of COVID-19.

LesPiere ended up commenting on the situation as well, as he felt bad for all involved.

“I am devastated,” LesPierre stated. “This was my opportunity to showcase my talent to the world, but everything happens for a reason. This is just another roadblock in my story. I apologize to Jose and his team for any inconvenience this caused. He is a great boxer, and I hope we can reschedule the fight as soon as possible.”

It is expected the July card would be in Las Vegas. The new main event for the June 18 fight card will be Gabriel Flores Jr against Josec Ruiz. it will still be airing on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET.
