When Will Sergio Martinez Fight Again?
Sergio Martinez is working towards getting another fight soon.
Martinez was in action on August 21. The 45-year-old took on Jose Miguel Fandino in Spain. “Maravilla” scored a TKO victory in the seventh round. This was his first bout since June 7, 2014.
The goal for Martinez was to slowly get back in the groove of fighting. He was surprised to find out that the WBA already positioned him at number six on the rankings. With such a position, Martinez is sure to be gunning for another run with a world title.
Martinez’s next fight will be held on December 5. An opponent and location have not been determined.

After having a successful comeback fight, Martinez summed up what it means to return to the boxing ring (via Boxing Scene).
“It was a fantastic fight,” Martinez said. “This fight was a rebirth. A kind of debut. I was able to recover sensations and refresh my memory little by little. It was a fantastic fight. So many years have passed since my first fight that there is little I remember. This fight was wonderful. I was able to position myself inside the ring and carry out a strategy.”
At the height of his career, Martinez was feared in the middleweight division. He beat the likes of Kelly Pavlik, Paul Williams, and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Near the end of his career, Martinez’s knee issues caught up with him. He was knocked down by Miguel Cotto several times in their bout before the fight was stopped. Martinez announced his retirement after the fight but feels he’s on the right track to be competitive in 2020.
