When Will Sweden’s Khamzat Chimaev Fight Next?
Following a dominant performance on July 15 during a mid-week fight night, Khamzat Chimaev will get a chance to excite fans once again.
ESPN was the first to report that the Swedish fighter will have a quick turnaround fight. Chimaev (7-0) will compete on this Saturday’s (July 25) UFC on ESPN 14 card against Rhys McKee. The event will take place on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi.
Chimaev made his MMA debut in 2018. He fought twice in 2019 for Brave CF, making a name for himself due to his wrestling ability. He debuted for the UFC against John Phillips, dominating the fight for two rounds. In the first round alone Chimaev landed 72 strikes compared to Phillips’ one. The fight would end when Chimaev locked in the D’Arce choke, learning him a Performance of the Night bonus.
UFC President Dana White mentioned following the fight against Phillips that he would like to see Chimaev back in the octagon soon.
McKee (10-2-1) is currently on a three-fight win streak dating back to 2018. His last fight was a TKO-win against Hakon Foss in November for Cage Warriors. The 24-year-old has seven wins via knockout.
Chimaev will look to get back into a fight mindset with just ten days until his next bout.
The turnaround bout will be added to a seven-fight main card. The main event of UFC Fight Island 3 / UFC on ESPN 14 is expected to be former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker against Darren Till.
