When Will We See Michael Conlan And Carl Frampton Back In A Boxing Ring?
With dreams of fighting for a world title, Michael Conlan is getting ready to once again take over the boxing world. As for Carl Frampton, he is ready for a big fight that will lead him to Jamel Herring.
According to Irish Boxing and discussed on Boxing Scene, Conlan (13-0) is set to return on August 15 from inside BT Sport Studios. Top Rank is looking to collaborate with MTK Global to host an event in London. Conlan’s opponent would be Sofiane Takoucht.
The 28-year-old Conlan made his professional debut in 2017. A bronze medalist in the 2012 Olympics, Conlan beat Jason Cunningham in 2018 for the WBO Inter-Continental Featherweight Championship. He has defended it three times, most recently in December. Inside Madison Square Garden, Conlan avenged his Olympic loss against Vladimir Nikitin by beating him via unanimous decision.
Conlan was supposed to fight in March against Miguel Marriaga. Due to the coronavirus reaching the United States, the card meant for Madison Square Garden was one of the first major fight events to be postponed.
Takoucht (35-4-1) lost his last bout against Josh Warrington for the IBF Featherweight Title in October. The TKO-loss ended an eight-fight win streak dating back to 2014.
Joining Conlan would be Frampton (27-2), who last fought in November. He beat Tyler McCreary via unanimous decision, a rebound following a loss against Warrington. The former IBF and WBA Super-Bantamweight and interim WBO Featherweight Champion is expected to fight for an interim title before facing off against Herring sometime in November. An opponent has yet to be determined.
Herring (21-2), had to back out of his fight with Jonathan Oquendo after twice testing positive for the coronavirus. The bout is looking to be rescheduled later this summer.
