Where To Watch: Mark Magsayo Vs. Rey Vargas Tonight

Tonight, in San Antonio, in association with TGB Promotions, Premier Boxing Champions has put together an evening of matchups featuring some very high-level competitors. The typical home of the UTSA Roadrunners football program, the Alamodome, will be the site of these matchups. Anticipation will fill the air as fight fans look forward to the WBC featherweight championship bout that is planned to culminate the evening.

Defending his 126-pound WBC belt for the first time since taking it from Gary Russell Jr. back in January, Mark Magsayo (24-0, 16 KO) will square off with the Mexican challenger Rey Vargas (35-0, 22 KO).

From humble beginnings in the Philippines, Magsayo now finds himself with a hard-earned belt around his waist and headlining the same arena where his childhood hero, and Filipino boxing legend, Manny Pacquiao began to make a name for himself on American soil. In the most important bout of his career, when he dethroned Gary Russell Jr. back in January, Magsayo was listed as a moderate underdog by the odds makers, and his opponent was heavily favored in the eyes of the general public. As a slight underdog heading into his first title defense, Magsayo will once again look to defy the odds and remain the featherweight king.

With Magsayo’s aggressive nature in the ring, and Vargas’ reasonably substantial advantages in height and reach, many think that this matchup is a perfect opportunity for the challenger to walk away with the WBC featherweight belt. Vargas is an extremely technical boxer, who has found success in many fights by delivering high percentage shots and massive output.

In the evening’s co-main event, fans can look forward to another outstanding featherweight bout when Brandon Figueroa (22-1, 17 KO) makes his 126-pound debut versus Carlos Castro (27-1, 12 KO).
