Which Two Fighters Are Reportedly Headlining UFC’s ‘Fight Island’ Event On July 15?
Two of the top featherweights in the UFC will look to create a five-round classic later this summer. ESPN was the first to report that Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige will main event the UFC’s “Fight Island” event on July 15.
Riding a six-fight win streak, Ige (14-2) has already fought twice in 2020. Following a unanimous decision win against Kevin Aguilar at UFC 247 back in June 2019, “Dynamite” beat Mirsad Bektic this past February via split decision. This will be a quick turnaround bout for him, as Ige beat Edson Barboza via split decision back in May.
Kattar (21-4) is 3-2 in his last five fights. The 32-year-old lost to Zabit Magomedsharipov back in November in a Fight of the Night winner. He also recently fought in May, beating Jeremy Stephens via a highlight reel TKO.
A win would be huge for Kattar, ranked sixth in the UFC’s featherweight standings. The same could be said for Ige, currently ranked eleventh. The latter is an alum of Dana White’s Contender Series.
“Fight Island” will be hosted in Abu Dhabi on Yas Island. As of now, four fight cards have been confirmed for the area, including July 11, July 18, and July 25. Also rumored for the card is Molly McCann v. Taila Santos.
