Which Vacant WBC Title Fight Has Been Approved?
There may be a vacant WBC Super-Lightweight Title fight on the horizon.
Sky Sports reports that the WBC has approved a vacant championship fight in the super-lightweight division between Chantelle Cameron and Adriana Araujo. Jessica McCaskill was the previous champion but she relinquished the gold in favor of moving up to welterweight.
The report notes that while the WBC has approved Cameron vs. Araujo, the bout isn’t official. The two sides are currently in discussions. Cameron is under Matchroom Boxing, which is helmed by Eddie Hearn.
Cameron is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Anahi Ester Sanchez back on November 9, 2019. The victory improved her perfect pro boxing record to 12-0. She has seven knockout victories. If a deal can be made for the Araujo fight, then this will be Cameron’s first shot at a major championship.
Araujo competed earlier this year. She defeated Estheliz Hernandez via unanimous decision back on February 29, 2020. Her pro boxing record is also perfect at 6-0. The 38-year-old has one knockout win to her credit. This would also be Araujo’s first opportunity at a major championship.
