White Finalizing Deal with Mayweather
It appears the teased event with UFC President Dana White and retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather may be near final.
Late last month, photos of White and Mayweather at an NBA game together circulated social media. In these posts, the pair teased of a special event, with Mayweather further teasing coming out of retirement once again.
The former five-division world champion retired following a win over Andre Berto in September 2015 but came out of retirement for the August 2017 “Money Fight” with former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor. Mayweather was featured in a special boxing exhibition with Tenshin Nasukawa in RIZIN last New Year’s Eve.
White, meanwhile, has announced intentions since Mayweather vs. McGregor to enter the boxing world with ZUFFA Boxing, but not much has come of that yet still.
White did not give much clarity to Rome on if Mayweather is partaking in a sanctioned bout or exhibition, or if ZUFFA Boxing and Mayweather Promotions will be doing some co-promoting. But White did say he intends to sit with Al Haymon, Mayweather’s longtime adviser and the head of Premier Boxing Champions, in the coming months.
“It’s true. We sat at the Clippers game. We started talking and we literally got a deal done right there on the court,” White said. “And if things play out the way things Floyd and I think they will, I will probably sit down with Al Haymon in March and get a deal on paper. If everything goes our way, Floyd and I would be doing something in October or November (of next year).”
