White: McGregor-Diaz III ‘Not A Priority’
UFC President Dana White is actually entertaining the idea of a third fight between current UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
Diaz posted a cryptic, teasing message on Instagram earlier this week, hinting at wanting to return to the Octagon in May or June. White is one of those excited about his return, and he tells TMZ he already is looking at possible fights for a Diaz return.
White said it’s possible that a long-awaited trilogy bout between McGregor and Diaz could be a possibility, but that takes second to McGregor actually defending his title first — something McGregor hasn’t done since winning the title about 14 months ago.
“I’ll tell ya what, I’ll call him today and make him an offer. I will make Nate Diaz an offer to fight today,” White said on Wednesday.
“I think people would rather see Conor come back and either fight Tony [Ferguson] or Khabib [Nurmagomedov] — whoever wins — and the Nate Diaz fight isn’t going anywhere. We can do that thing anytime,” White said.
Diaz has not fought in the UFC since 2016 when he went 1-1 in his rivalry with then-featherweight champion McGregor.
White added that a welterweight title fight between champion Tyron Woodley and Diaz would not happen.
Diaz, and his older brother, Nick Diaz, have been difficult to get to return to MMA, both wanting fights that they deem worthy.
