White Talks Mayweather-McGregor, Rousey
While the potential boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather has progressed to the point of possibility, UFC President Dana White still says there is a lot of work to do before a deal gets made. As McGregor remains under UFC contract, White will play a pivotal role in getting the deal done for the Mayweather fight.
“I think it’s progressing but nowhere near being done,” White told TMZ. “It’s not even close to being done. If we were close, I would tell you we were close. We’re not even close.”
White was also asked about Ronda Rousey, who has been mostly silent since her UFC 207 loss to Amanda Nunes. While the prevailing belief is that the former dominant champion is never going to fight again, Rousey has yet to make an official statement about retiring from MMA. The UFC President himself has not gotten confirmation about her future yet, but he remains firm on his belief that she will never fight again.
“I don’t think so,” White said. “She hasn’t retired. She hasn’t told me she’s retiring. But I don’t think [she’s coming back].”
