A press conference for ZUFFA Boxing will become this month or next month, per UFC President Dana White, and he says his new promotion will fix a damaged system in the sport.
White, who recently appeared on the Randy and Gerry show on SiriusXM, was originally a boxing fan, and it led him into the world of MMA.
During his appearance, White doubled down on his claim that the current model in boxing is “broken” and he promised in ZUFFA Boxing, the best will fight the best.
Furthermore, White claims that he will not recognize the belts of boxing’s sanctioning bodies — only ZUFFA Boxing’s. He supported this by stating it’s what makes the UFC’s championships the most credible — because the best are fighting the best.
“There’s enough money out there for everybody,” White said.
White has spent time talking with various boxing promoters, noting the only ones that he hasn’t reached out to are Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions and Bob Arum of Top Rank, both of whom White has vendettas with.
White even toyed with the possibility of buying Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions.
“I’m figuring out what to do,” White said. “I’ve met with literally everybody in the sport, minus Arum and De La Hoya.”
While he did not go into specific details, White teased ZUFFA Boxing would air on UFC Fight Pass and on a TV network. He added based on meetings he’s had with Haymon and Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn, he fully expects to do business with both men.
White added the mystery hire he’s made for ZUFFA Boxing has started.
