Whittaker Pulled From UFC 248

Robert Whittaker’s return to the Octagon has been delayed, as the former middleweight champion will no longer compete at UFC 248.

The card set for March 7th in Las Vegas was to have Whittaker’s first fight since being knocked out by Israel Adesanya in late 2019, will need to find a new opponent for Jarred Connonier after Whittaker pulled from the card on Wednesday.

Through a statement, Whittaker claimed personal issues need his focus right now as he reprioritizes his life.

“Apologies to all my friends and supporters, but unfortunately I won’t be competing on the UFC 248 fight card,” Whittaker said in a statement. “There are a few other things going on in my life that I need to give priority to and sort out, so I have had to change my plans. But I’ll be back soon. Bigger and better than before.”

Per Ariel Helwani, the UFC is looking to keep Cannonier on the card, no word yet on a potential opponent.
