Whittaker-Romero To Headline UFC 225

It seems that Yoel Romero won’t have to wait long for his chance at the middleweight title, as he and Robert Whittaker will be headlining UFC 225 in Chicago.

In a story broken by BJPenn.com and posted by MMA Fighting, the UFC is looking to announce the fight officially soon.

This fight will be a rematch of their 2017 battle for the then interim middleweight title at UFC 213. Whittaker would be named the undisputed champion after Georges St-Pierre vacated the title after beating Michael Bisping at UFC 217.

Whittaker has been sidelined with a litany of illnesses, including the chicken pox, which lead to Romero facing Luke Rockhold for what was supposed to be a interim title fight in February. The belt would not be on the line in Australia, as Romero would miss weight leaving Rockhold only able to win the championship. While Romero wouldn’t be interim champion, he would earn the victory and the UFC 225 title shot with a third round knockout of Rockhold.
