Whittaker Wants UFC 231 Against Weidman for Return

Robert Whittaker eyes the “World’s Most Famous Arena” as the sight of his next fight, as he looks to be fully healed from a broken hand by November.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Whittaker’s management team confirmed that the UFC middleweight champion is looking to headline UFC 231 in November against Chris Weidman at Madison Square Garden.

Whittaker broke his hand in the early moments of his UFC 225 title defense against Yoel Romero, gaining a split decision victory.

The Australian  is looking at a return in November or December, and his manager Titus Day told the Telegraph that  “Madison Square Garden is a possibility.”

“Rob’s the middleweight champ and his last two fights have been wars,” Titus said this week.
So if his hand heals up as quickly as we’re hoping, we would definitely push for him to compete at the greatest fight arena in the world.

“And Chris Weidman, as the former champ, would be a perfect rival for that fight… So if all goes well, we’ll definitely look at that New York card. It’s traditionally one of the biggest on the UFC calendar and after the way Rob has won his last two fights over in the States, there is huge interest in him now.”
