Among the highest paid athletes in the world, there’s three boxers and one mixed martial artist of them.
In a study released by Sportico on Wednesday, the sports business media publication ranked undisputed middleweight titleholder Canelo Alvarez as the fifth-richest athlete in the world with $89 million to his name.
WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury placed No. 14 with $69 million; former UFC double champion Conor McGregor landed No. 22 with $52 million and YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul was No. 45 with $37 million.
The only four athletes that were ahead of Alvarez were NBA star LeBron James ($127 million), and soccer stars Lionel Messi ($122 million), Cristiano Ronaldo ($115 million) and Neymar ($103 million).
The Sportico report calculates 12-month earnings between June 2021 and May 2022. Earnings from sponsorships, licensing, and royalties are all taken into account.
McGregor was the only MMA athlete who made it to the top-100 list.
