Who Could Face Gervonta Davis Next?
Gervonta Davis’ next bout is being worked on if a new report is to be believed.
Davis is the WBA (Super) Super-Featherweight and WBA (Regular) Lightweight Champion. He last competed back in October 2020 when he scored a devastating one-punch knockout victory over Leo Santa Cruz. Many have been wondering what’s next for “Tank” and it appears we have the answer.
Mike Coppinger of The Athletic reports that a 140-pound showdown between Davis and Mario Barrios is being targeted for the summer.
Sources: A 140-pound fight between Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Mario Barrios is in the works for this summer. @Gervontaa’s last fight was at 130 pounds so he’s moving up two weight classes for a bout with a big, undefeated 140-pounder. Story unlocked https://t.co/IwNgYFeknY

If the bout comes to fruition at that weight class, then neither of Davis’ titles will be on the line. That’s because “Tank” holds championships in the 130-pound and 135-pound divisions.
Barrios is the WBA (Regular) Light-Welterweight Champion. He has an unbeaten pro boxing record of 26-0. Barrios last competed on the undercard of Davis vs. Santa Cruz. Barrios successfully defended his title by stopping Ryan Karl in the sixth round via TKO.
Davis is also undefeated and is considered to be one of boxing’s potential breakout stars. His record stands at 24-0 with 23 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
