Who Could Shakur Stevenson’s Next Opponent Be?

Shakur Stevenson’s next fight may be set.

Stevenson has a mandatory claim for the winner of Jamel Herring vs. Carl Frampton but it appears he isn’t interested in waiting. Stevenson, who is part Puerto Rican, is on tap to compete during the Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend. ESPN reports that Stevenson will headline a June 12 card in New York City. His likely opponent is Jeremiah Nakathila.

Top Rank is reportedly looking to add rising Puerto Rican star Edgar Berlanga to the card if he can get past Demond Nicholson without injury in April. Stevenson and Berlanga were featured on the same card back in December. Both men emerged victorious and kept their unbeaten records intact.

In his last outing, Stevenson defeated Toka Khan Clary via unanimous decision. He had two bouts in 2020 with the other matchup ending in a knockout victory over Felix Caraballo.

Nakathila has a record of 21-1 with 17 of those wins coming by way of knockout. Nakathila is riding a 10-fight winning streak. The lone defeat of his pro boxing career took place back in November 2016. He dropped a majority decision to Evgeny Chuprakov.

FIGHT SPORTS will keep you up to speed when there’s an official word on Shakur Stevenson’s next fight.
