Who Has Been Added To Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong Card?
The Josh Taylor vs. Apinun Khongsong card has a new fight.
WBA (Super) and IBF Light-Welterweight Champion Taylor is set to put his gold on the line against Khongsong on September 26. The title bout will headline a Top Rank Boxing card on ESPN+. It’ll be held inside the BT Sport Studio in London, England.
Former WBC Flyweight Champion Charlie Edwards (15-1, 1 NC) will be competing on the card in a bantamweight fight. Edwards will meet Kyle Williams (11-2). Edwards vacated his flyweight gold over health concerns pertaining to cutting weight.
Edwards is eager to return to the boxing ring as he’s been out of action since August 31, 2019 (h/t Boxing Scene).
“I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring,” Edwards said. “It feels like it’s been a long time coming. I have had 12 months out, but I have developed more than I did even when I was a world champion. My life away from boxing could not be any better. I am settled in a new home, I have got engaged and in January I will become a Dad. I have never been in such a good place mentally, physically, and emotionally.”
In his last outing, Edwards initially suffered a knockout loss at the hands of Julio Cesar Martinez. That result was overturned to a No Contest as it was determined that Edwards was down when Martinez landed the finishing blow. Martinez has since become the WBC Flyweight Champion after the title was vacated.
Williams is coming off a split decision loss to Ionut Baluta back on October 18, 2019. He last emerged victorious on July 28, 2019, when he bested Jose Aguilar on points.
