Who Is In Teofimo Lopez’s Camp For Vasiliy Lomachenko Fight?
A familiar face is in Teofimo Lopez’s camp ahead of the big title fight with Vasiliy Lomachenko.
The title unification bout between Lomachenko and Lopez has been made official by Top Rank Boxing. Lomachenko will put his WBA (Super) and WBO Lightweight Titles on the line, while Lopez’s IBF gold will be up for grabs. Lomachenko is 14-1, while Lopez is 15-0 as a professional. Lomachenko is likely to head into this one as the betting favorite but it is still a highly-anticipated matchup.
In a chat with Boxing Scene, Joey Gamache revealed that he has been brought back to Lopez’s camp in preparation for fight night.
“They reached out to me before Otto’s fight (on August 15). We all worked together well as part of a team (for the Commey fight). They got a hold of me and, yeah, guess it works good. There was some talk about going to Big Bear (California), but in the end, they wanted to stick to where they had the last camp with Commey. We’ve been here four weeks now, working hard and working smart.”
Gamache is a former boxer himself. In fact, he once captured the WBA Lightweight Title and the WBA Super-Featherweight Championship. He trains Swedish boxing standout Otto Wallin.
Lomachenko vs. Lopez will take place on October 17. The bout will headline a Top Rank Boxing card. It’ll be broadcast live on the major ESPN network. As expected during the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will take place inside an empty MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
