Who Is Jaime Munguia’s Next Opponent?
Jaime Munguia has an opponent and a date.
Golden Boy Promotions has announced that Munguia will return to action on October 30. He’ll go one-on-one with Tureano Johnson inside the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. The event will be closed off to the public. Munguia’s WBO Intercontinental Middleweight Championship will be on the line.
Here’s what Oscar De La Hoya had to say on the announcement of Munguia vs. Johnson.
“Jaime Munguia has all the qualities to become Mexico’s biggest boxing superstar,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman, and CEO of Golden Boy. “He’s tough, charismatic, and has the physique to win world titles at both middleweight and super-middleweight after a successful reign at 154 pounds. However, Tureano Johnson is coming off an impressive knockout win against Jason Quigley in which he handed him his first loss, something he definitely wants to do against Munguia as well. This is a veritable crossroads fight, and the winner will cement his case for a world title opportunity and be a threat to any of the champions.”
This event will air live on DAZN.
Munguia is going into his second fight of 2020. He competed back on January 11, defeating Gary O’Sullivan via TKO in the 11th round to capture the Intercontinental gold.
