Who Is Offering To Fight Tony Ferguson?
A top-ranked UFC lightweight is willing to step in to fight Tony Ferguson.
Much has been made over what’s next for Ferguson. UFC President Dana White had expressed interest in booking Ferguson against Dustin Poirier. Things went south when Poirier and the UFC couldn’t come to terms on a deal. White would go on to say that he has moved on from trying to make the fight happen.
With Ferguson vs. Poirier looking bleak, Dan Hooker appears to be willing to step up and deliver the barn burner fans are hoping for. Hooker’s coach Eugene Bareman said the following during his appearance on Submission Radio (via LowKickMMA.com).
“October is a bit early for us, otherwise we would jump in there straight away for sure. But if they can push it back. Dan just got off concussion protocol now, so of this week. So, he’s only just started back training. So, obviously October might be a hard push. He would do it. I would have to talk him out of it, but he would probably do it one hundred percent. But Dan’s just back now, he’s getting fit again, it’s good to have him back in the gym. So, yeah, if they can’t come to terms, and it sounds like they haven’t come to terms, then we’ll jump in there and fight Tony for sure.”
Hooker is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Poirier. “The Hangman” may have fallen short but the bout is being hailed as a “Fight of the Year” candidate. Much like Ferguson and Poirier, Hooker is known for his grit and ability to absorb punishment as well as dish it out.
Ferguson is coming off his first loss in eight years. He was defeated by Justin Gaethje via fifth-round TKO at UFC 249 back in May. Ferguson had been unbeaten since May 2012.
