Who Is Shawn Porter Targeting For His Next Fight?
Following the 31st victory of his pro boxing career, Shawn Porter has his sights set on the winner of a pivotal title bout.
On November 21, WBC and IBF Welterweight Champion Errol Spence Jr. will put his unified gold on the line against Danny Garcia. The championship tilt is set to headline a FOX Sports PBC card on pay-per-view. Porter will be watching closely as he has a history with both men.
Back in September 2018, Porter handed Garcia the second loss of his pro boxing career. “Showtime” won the bout via unanimous decision to capture the vacant WBC Welterweight Title. Porter ended up losing his gold to Spence in their hotly-contested September 2019 clash. Porter lost the fight via split decision.
This past Saturday night (August 22), Porter defeated Sebastian Formella to take home the WBC Silver Welterweight Title. It was his first outing since the loss to Spence.
After his victory over Formella, Porter said he’s got his eyes on the winner of Spence vs. Garcia (h/t Boxing Scene).
“There’s no telling what they’ll see from me in a rematch,” added Porter. “I think both guys can also make adjustments. That’s what makes rematches so great, the fans have seen what both of you can do and they want to see who will make the right adjustments. I definitely think that I will be a little different against either guy.”
When Spence shares the boxing ring with Garcia, it’ll be his first bout since his car crash back in October 2019. As for Garcia, he’s coming off a unanimous decision win over Ivan Redkach back in January and hopes to end 2020 with gold.
