Who Wants To Welcome Nick Diaz Back To The UFC?

One top 10 UFC welterweight is open to fighting Nick Diaz.

Diaz got many fight fans to turn their heads with a new video. In the clip, Diaz appears to be in tremendous shape. The Stockton native’s manager, Kevin Mubenga told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani that Diaz is planning a comeback in 2021. Diaz hasn’t been seen in action since January 31, 2015.

During an appearance on Submission Radio, Stephen Thompson threw his name in the hat as a potential opponent for Diaz if he follows through with his plans to return (via MMAFighting.com).

“If I were to be honest, if he ever comes back, Nick Diaz would be a really good fight, an interesting fight, for sure. I said something on Twitter the other day about ‘I would welcome him back to the division, for sure.’ I didn’t believe [Diaz’s plans to return], but if he was planning on it, even if he’s thinking about it, I wanted to put my name out there. That’s a guy who has been in the game a long time, he’s a veteran, he’s fought some really good guys. I love the Diaz brothers. Their whole demeanor, their attitude, that’s just who they are. They’re not faking anything about it and you’ve got to respect that. So at first I was like, and I still kind of am, I just don’t believe it. But I want to put my name out there if he was willing to come back.”

Many often compare Thompson’s fighting style to point karate. If he fights Diaz he’s likely to keep it standing. Diaz’s boxing helped earn him success, especially under the Strikeforce banner. If it hits the ground, Diaz will certainly look to make use of his jiu-jitsu skills.

UFC President Dana White has said he isn’t sold on Diaz’s comeback plans.
