Who Will Not Be Competing At UFC On ESPN 12?
The last fight card before “Fight Island” for the UFC will be making another last-minute change to it.
Combate is reporting that an injury has forced Miranda Maverick out her bout against Mara Romero Borella this Saturday, June 27. Maverick (7-2) ended up posting on social media that an injury was uncovered as she was getting her medicals done. She will reportedly be out of action for six to eight weeks.
“An unforeseen injury was detected while getting my final medicals done for my ufc debut. As a result I was not cleared for my fight this Saturday. It will be about 6-8 weeks hopefully before I will be cleared to fight. Thank you to the @ufc for working with me and my family, friends and team for being there as I felt lost, failed, and afraid.
“Dreams can encompass our lives. I know mine has. Swallowing up my passion, my effort, my time. But then with no notice, our dreams – even our sense of reality – can be ripped away in the blink of an eye. I truly believe God has a plan even if we don’t like it. I’ll be back better and stronger than before, my timing just wasn’t His timing.”
The 22-year-old Maverick was supposed to make her UFC debut atter a lengthy run in Invicta FC. Debuting in 2016, Maverick is on a three-fight win streak, winning the Invicta FC Phoenix Series 2 Flyweight Tournament in the process. Her last bout was in February, beating Pearl Gonzalez via unanimous decision.
As for her opponent, the UFC is working on finding a fight for Mara Romero Borella. The 34-year-old from Italy is on a three-fight losing streak. Borella (12-8, 2 NC) last fought in May, losing to Cortney Casey via submission.
The change is one of several the UFC has gone through before this weekend. Aspen Ladd v. Sarah McMann was postponed, while Jinh Yu Frey v. Kay Hansen was added. Additionally, Sean Woodson is now set to face Julian Erosa after Kyle Nelson had to back out of their fight.
