Why Is Dominick Reyes Moving On From Jon Jones?

Dominick Reyes is putting his desire for a rematch with Jon Jones behind him.

Back on February 8, Reyes challenged Jones for the UFC Light-Heavyweight Championship. The bout went the distance and “The Devastator” gave “Bones” all he could handle. In the end, all three judges scored the fight for Jones. Most MMA media members scored the fight for Reyes according to MMADecisions.com.

For months, Reyes has been calling for the rematch with Jones as he believes he did enough to win the fight. Things changed once Jones decided to relinquish the UFC Light-Heavyweight Title in favor of moving up to heavyweight.

Speaking to MMAFighting.com, Reyes explained why it was best for him to not continue to push for the Jones rematch at this point.

“It was me freeing myself from all of that controversy, from that moment. I took what I could from it, everything I could from it and I moved forward. In order to be the next great champion, I’ve got to move on. There can be nothing else in the mirror. It’s one million percent focused on the target in front of me and that’s Jan Blachowicz. In order to move forward, you’ve got to let go of the past. That’s what that was.”

Reyes is scheduled to take on Jan Blachowicz for the vacant UFC Light-Heavyweight Championship on September 26. The title fight will serve as the co-main event of UFC 253. It’ll take place on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The event will mark the UFC’s quick return to “Fight Island.”
