Whyte To Join Top Rank/ESPN Leaving Matchroom
After being passed up for Jarrell Miller, Dillian Whyte is leaving his partnership with Eddie Hearn to sign with Bob Arum’s Top Rank.
Per a report by Boxing Scene, Whyte will sign a multi-fight contract with the promotional company, which will see his fights airing on ESPN and ESPN+, beginning at some point in the next few months.
Whyte’s deal follows Top Rank signing a co-promotional deal with Tyson Fury in February, and potentially sets up a showdown between the two in the future.
In February, Whyte was all but set as the next opponent for unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on April 13th at Wembley Stadium. While negotiations broke down between the two sides, Whyte and Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn would open negotiations with Jarrell Miller, lining up a June 1st showdown at Madison Square Garden.
According to the report from Boxing Scene, Whyte was asking more than any other potential partners, including DAZN were willing to spend, while ESPN directed Top Rank to make the best use of a new budget, opening the door for the WBC contender to join the WorldWide Leader.
