Wilder Vs. Zhang Almost Finalized For June 1

Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang are reportedly close to agreeing on a fight for June 1.

The pair will likely feature in the co-main event of Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol, who fight for the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Championship on the same date. Wilder and Zhang are looking to bounce back from their recent defeats. Wilder lost a one-sided unanimous decision against Joseph Parker last year.

The Bronze Bomber won one round on all three judges’ scorecards. The loss prevented the Anthony Joshua fight after both had signed a two-fight deal. Zhang lost his WBO Heavyweight Interim Title, losing a majority decision to Parker. Despite dropping Parker twice, Zhang slowed down in the latter part of the fight, allowing Parker to win on the cards.

The defeat meant he was no longer in a mandatory position for the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk. A victory is vital for both men if they desire to secure a world title in the latter part of their careers. Wilder is 38 and has lost three out of his last four bouts. Zhang is 40 and is showing signs of slowing down. But with both fighters able to knock out their opponents, boxing fans were fully behind the fight.
