Will Billy Joe Saunders Fight Canelo Alvarez In 2020?
Billy Joe Saunders wants a big fight with Canelo Alvarez but will he get it?
Saunders is the WBO Super-Middleweight Champion. Alvarez has won multiple world championships in the middleweight division and he even captured the WBO Light-Heavyweight Title. He is arguably the biggest star in boxing today.
Much has been made over what’s next for Canelo. While the WBC is trying to get him to fight Avni Yıldırım for the vacant WBC Super-Middleweight title, there is a bump in the road. Canelo and Golden Boy Promotions are reportedly having issues with DAZN over money. DAZN is reportedly unwilling to pay Canelo a $35 million guarantee due to a lack of top-drawing fights including the lack of a trilogy bout with Gennadiy Golovkin.
Due to Canelo’s reported standstill with DAZN, he may not compete in 2020. Saunders hopped on Twitter to say that fight fans expecting him to fight Canelo anytime soon shouldn’t hold their breath.

“Looks like the big one won’t be happening Alvarez but still Demetrius Andrade or Callum Smith should be made for November. DAZN, Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn get them made.”
Saunders is coming off a knockout victory over Marcelo Esteban Coceres back on November 9, 2019. It was the first WBO Super-Middleweight Title defense for Saunders.
As it stands now, Saunders has a perfect pro boxing record of 29-0. He’s scored 14 knockouts along the way. Canelo’s record is 53-1 with 36 knockouts to his credit. We’ll keep you updated on the latest regarding the fighting futures of Saunders and Canelo once more details become available.
