Will Floyd Mayweather Be Competing At A Celebrity Boxing Event?
One of boxing’s biggest names of the last 20 years will be making his return to the sport, just in a different way.
TMZ Sports is reporting that Floyd Mayweather will be involved in a celebrity boxing charity event scheduled for the end of June. Dubbed “Fight for a Cause”, the event will feature several celebrities from various backgrounds. Funds raised from the event will go to U.S. Military charities and COVID-19 relief. As far as the location, it is expected to be held in Las Vegas.
Mayweather (50-0), who hasn’t competed professionally since facing Conor McGregor in 2017, will reportedly not be fighting at the event. Instead, he will be one of the judges scoring the bouts. Participants have not been announced, but TMZ stated they will be coming from MMA, basketball, and Hollywood.
This is not the first time a boxing event featuring celebrities was created. FOX produced a “Celebrity Boxing” show in 2002, with participants including the likes of Danny Bonaduce, Dustin Diamond, and Vanilla Ice.
While he has been teasing a return to the ring, Mayweather is looking to be a trainer to several young boxers. He has been working with Devin Haney, while also keeping an eye on Gervonta Davis for Mayweather Promotions.
