Will the T-Mobile Arena In Las Vegas Host Canelo Alvarez Vs. Dmitry Bivol on May 7?

The potentially explosive meeting between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol could be set to happen in the former’s favorite venue on May 7.

The bout and venue are yet to be confirmed but boxing fans are already excited at the prospect of the meeting at the T-Mobile Arena In Las Vegas. Sportsbooks across the country are certain to be subject to heavy betting once confirmation of the event happens.

Boxing has become one of the most popular sports for wagering especially in states like Nevada where there are more than 200 active sportsbooks and relatively new entrants to the market New Jersey where there are currently 24 NJ licensed providers is also seeing a lot of activity.

It’s events like Alvarez vs Bivol that have sparked this popularity. So, sportsbooks and fans alike will be hoping agreements can be reached for the match to go ahead.

Bivol already preparing for the defense of his WBA title

Bivol is not waiting for his next opponent to be confirmed. The Russian is preparing to be ready to fight on May 7.

He is training in order to be ready to defend his WBA title. Bivol will also be defending his impressive unbeaten record of 19 fights and 19 wins with 11 Kos.

Fight dependent on completion of Matchroom deal

Whether Bivol’s work results in a fight with Alvarez depends on whether the Mexican agrees to a potential two-fight deal with Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn. The meeting with Bivol would be the first fight of that deal. The second fight would be against Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17.

Although the deal is yet to be confirmed, current signs are that it will happen. If this is the case, the T-Mobile Arena is looking like a potential venue; a fact that should please Alvarez.

Alvarez hopes that “lucky” venue is confirmed

There is no doubt that the T-Mobile Arena has been a lucky venue for Alvarez over the years. It’s the place where he has beaten fighters including Amir Khan and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. It’s not surprising that Alvarez has described the arena as his favorite in interviews.

However, any fight against Bivol will be a lot tougher than these bouts due to the Russian’s impressive fight record. The fact is that this opponent is of a much higher caliber than previous Alvarez adversaries such as Billy Joe Saunders, Callum Smith, and Caleb Plant. Bivol is a much better technical fighter than these relatively weak champions. He will not make mistakes like Saunders habit of learning forward during the entire fight making life easy for Alvarez.

The fact is that even with a favored venue potentially in his favor, the Mexican fighter will find this a tough fight to win. That will not stop him from relishing the opportunity though if, as seems likely, he agrees the Matchroom deal and opens the door on this fascinating fight.
