UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria (17-0) is interested in a possible fight with Conor McGregor (22-6), but wants to wait to see how the Irishman looks in his expected return fight.
Topuria is currently in the final stages of preparation to headline UFC Freedom 250 on June 14 where he will defend his belt vs interim-lightweight champ Justin Gaethje (27-5-0). As for Conor, McGregor has been linked to several names for his rumored summer comeback, most recently Max Holloway. McGregor’s last UFC fight was in July 2021, a defeat to Dustin Poirier where he suffered a broken leg in the opening round. Topuria stated any fight would depend on how Conor looks in his return, as Topuria was clear that they are not on the same level now.
“It’s not on my radar, but if I get offered that fight, we’ll see where Conor is going to be at that point. If he gets a win, a great comeback, he wins his next fight and I get offered that fight, we’ll see. I never close the door for those kinds of opportunities, even if we are not on the same level right now,” Topuria said
