Will We Ever See Tyson Fury in MMA?

A few months ago, it was noted that Tyson Fury wants to do anything competitive that will be fun for him. He has expressed an interest in rejoining WWE following a few competitive bouts. Before his second fight with Deontay Wilder in February, Fury (30-0-1) teased joining the world of MMA, as he was seen training with UFC fighter Darren Till.

Recently, he has called out WWE Champion Drew McIntyre out. Now, it looks like Tyson is serious about joining MMA.

On Instagram Live, Fury talked about his plans to become a three-sport athlete. He mentioned he’s had conversations with UFC President Dana White on the matter.

“I’ve had plenty of conversations with Dana White about potentially having a fight with one of the guys,” Fury stated, via Boxing Junkie. “But, at the minute, I don’t need to fight UFC guys. … I need to clear up some of my own stuff [in boxing]. There’s a few guys that need to be fought in this era. I need to fight Wilder again. I’ve got to fight Joshua. I need to fight Dillian Whyte.

“I’ll fight anyone. And there’s a lot coming up, too, like Joe Joyce, Daniel Dubois, and Tony Yoka. A lot of fresh meat to beat on. There’s even fights like Luis Ortiz, whoever.”

When Fury first started his MMA journey, White respected his desire to compete but was unsure what he could bring to the table. He at least stated he would keep an eye on the situation. Fury went as far as talking to Conor McGregor to train him, so the desire is there.

Fury is coming off of a TKO-win against Deontay Wilder back in February. The “Gypsy King” ran circles around Wilder, knocking him down twice. His corner threw in the towel in the seventh round, resulting in Fury winning the WBC Heavyweight Title. The two are scheduled to compete in a rematch sometime in November or December, at least. Fury has mentioned competing until he is 40. That could mean continuing to face the top fighters at heavyweight, while also looking into a competitive bout in MMA.

“There are so many heavyweights today,” Fury went on to say. “Efa Ajagba, the Nigerian. He looks pretty good, big tall kid. Filip Hrgovic, he looks amazing, too. Oleksandr Usyk. Derek Chisora, he’s in the mix. There are so many good heavyweights out there to be fought and fights to give the fans.

“Until then, I don’t need a fight with Francis Ngannou. I don’t need Stipe Miocic, Brock Lesnar, whoever. I don’t need these guys to fight in a crossover match right now. When I’m finished what I’m doing in my own career, we can look at something like that.”
