Will Wladimir Klitschko Return To Break Heavyweight Record?

Talk of a Wladimir Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs) comeback has resurfaced after the former heavyweight champion was photographed alongside promoter Alex Krassyuk, who captioned the image with the words “something big is coming.”

Klitschko, who turns 50 this year, has been linked to a return on multiple occasions since retiring in 2017 following losses to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. He ended his career with a record of 64 wins — 53 by knockout — and five defeats, having made 18 successful world title defences.

The timing is notable. Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to vacate the WBA, WBC and IBF heavyweight titles has opened the landscape considerably, and Klitschko has previously stated that breaking George Foreman’s record as the oldest heavyweight champion in history would be his motivation for coming back. Foreman was 45 years old when he stopped Michael Moorer in 1994 to reclaim the heavyweight championship. Spencer Brown, manager of new WBC heavyweight champion Agit Kabayel, has already floated a fight between the two.
