Williams Drops, Upsets Hurd for 154 Titles

Julian Williams has pulled off an upset, scoring a unanimous decision over the previously-undefeated Jarrett Hurd to win the WBA and IBF Junior Middleweight Titles.

The title bout headlined a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on FOX card that took place at the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.

After a feeling-out process in the first round, the two traded away in the second, with a combination from Williams sending Hurd back into the ropes and down, catching many by surprise.

After another even round in the third, Williams laid into Hurd on the inside over the next couple of rounds. Williams, however, was tagged on the eye in the fifth and it began to swell.

Hurd attempted to take back control in the sixth, working over Williams’ body, while Williams tried to keep Hurd at bay from a distance. Williams got Hurd back and targeted his eye in the eighth, pounding away and leaving a cut.

Hurd edged out Williams over the next two rounds, but Williams battled back in the eleventh, with the fight going to the cards after an even final round.

All three judges gave the bout to Williams with scores of 116-111, 115-112, 115-112.
