Williams On Facing Andrade: ‘I’ll Be Too Much For Him’
Although Demetrius Andrade has requested fights against Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders, there are still mandatory challengers for the WBO Middleweight Champion to face. One fighter believes that Andrade isn’t ready for him.
On a six-fight win streak, Liam Williams has become the next big fight for Andrade (29-0). Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a bout between the two might have to wait. Williams (22-2-1), however, is insisting that Andrade not focus on facing other fighters as long as he is around. He also gave Andrade an ultimatum.
“I don’t know what Andrade is playing at since I’m his mandatory challenger now,” Williams stated, via Boxing Scene. “He has to fight me next or vacate the belt… I honestly think if I face Andrade, I’ll be too much for him. I’m too fresh, too fit, too strong. I’m relentless and I don’t think he has the answers to what I’m gonna bring to the table.”
Williams turned professional in 2011. He didn’t lose a bout until 2017, when he lost two in a row to Liam Smith. Since then, he has six wins via some form of knockout. “The Machine’s” last bout was in December, beating Alantez Fox via TKO.
Andrade won the WBO Middleweight Title against Walter Kautondokwa in 2018. He has since defended it against Artur Akavov, Maciej Sulecki, and Luke Keeler. The Keeler bout was right before the Super Bowl.
A former Commonwealth Super-Welterweight Champion, Williams’ move to middleweight has done wonders for him. Even though Andrade’s attention is elsewhere and travel is limited, Williams has never been so confident in his ability.
“I’m having a great run at the moment,” Williams went on to say. “My last six fights have been stoppage victories and before the Liam Smith losses, I was on an eight-fight knockout streak. I’m on a great run and I honestly believe that run is going to continue when I fight Andrade for the world title and I fully believe that I’m going to stop him.”
