Wood Stops Warrington In The Seventh Round To Retain His WBA Featherweight Title

Leigh Wood stopped Josh Warrington in the seventh round to retain his WBA featherweight title.

From the beginning, Wood started off with a southpaw stance in an attempt to confuse his opponent. However, Warrington adapted very quickly as he outworked his opponent after the second round. The former got more out of the exchanges as he landed the cleaner punches. Warrington’s punches caused a cut above Wood’s right eye. Although the good work was undone, as Warrington had a point deducted in round seven, he was ahead in the fight.

That is when the fight turned suddenly. Wood dropped Warrington with a stunning combination. A right hook was followed up by a five-punch combination that sent Warrington to the floor. Although Warrington aimed to get up, the fight was called off. Wood kept his WBA featherweight title, while Warrington’s record stands at just one win in his last five fights.
