WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle Warns NFL Hall of Famer Ray Lewis
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has warned former NFL player Ray Lewis about the risks of returning to competitive wrestling with Real American Freestyle.
Lewis, 51, has been linked with a potential RAF appearance. The former Baltimore Ravens linebacker and Pro Football Hall of Famer has a wrestling background, having won a Florida state championship in high school.
Angle, 57, retired from professional wrestling in 2019 after a wrestling career spanning four decades, from amateur competition to sports entertainment. He has since had multiple surgeries, including knee replacements and neck surgery, leading him to say he regrets not retiring years earlier.
Angle questioned whether Lewis should compete against active wrestlers at his age.
“Ray Lewis is a badass, but … I don’t know if it’d be a good idea for him to get on the mat with some of those studs,” Angle said.
The former Olympic freestyle wrestling champion also noted that Lewis’s previous experience would not remove the physical risks of an RAF match.
“Ray did wrestle I believe in high school. So, he knows wrestling,” Angle said. “Every match in Olympic-style wrestling is real. So, if he does wrestle, then good for him. And I hope he doesn’t get hurt.”
Angle previously worked as a commentator for RAF.
